Mauritius and the European Commission have agreed to sign a EUR 3.5 million Financing Agreement for the implementation of the Circular Economy Roadmap. The 48-month programme aims to strengthen socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable development in Mauritius.

This initiative focuses on two key objectives:

1. Strengthening the institutional and regulatory framework for implementing the national Circular Economy Roadmap and Action Plan; and

2. Enhancing the effectiveness of circular economy initiatives in the built environment sector, with a particular focus on women entrepreneurs.

The Action Plan will contribute directly to achieving:

• Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and indirectly SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure),

• SDG 13 (Climate Action),

• SDG 15 (Life on Land), SDG 14 (Life below Water),

• SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities),

• SDG 5 (Gender Equality),

• SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 1 (No Poverty), and

• SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
