Air Mauritius welcomed the latest member of its fleet, an A-350 900 Airbus, a jewel of new technology and the first aircraft of its kind in the Indian Ocean. The aircraft has been named "Le Morne Brabant" after the island nation's iconic and historic UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.
‘Le Morne Brabant’ landed at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport on 20th October 2017 at 15h17, amidst the national police band fanfare and enthusiastic applause from a crowd of high level guests.
A robust national airline is of fundamental importance for Mauritius, in view that aviation is the backbone of tourism, a sector which generates some 70,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs and which accounts for 17.9% of GDP in Mauritius.
"Le Morne Brabant" is the fist eight new aircrafts ordered by Air Mauritius to modernise the company's fleet with modern and highly energy sufficient aircrafts. The delivery of the aircraft takes place in the context of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Air Mauritius as well as the 50 years of independence of the country. A second A350 will be delivered by the end of this year, two A330neo in 2018, two A350 in 2019 and finally two more A350 in 2023.
