Mauritius and the Zhejiang Province of the People’s Republic of China sign MOU for tourism promotion

On 18th June 2018, Mauritius and Zhejiang Province of the People’s Republic of China signed an “MOU of Strategic Tourism Promotion Cooperation", in view to further their mutual cooperation in the tourism sector.

On this occasion, a delegation of 200 people from Zhejiang Province, comprising representatives from the tourism sector and Chinese media, was in Mauritius to promote the fascinating province of Zhejiang to the Mauritius population. Cultural shows and a documentary on the province were presented.

China has become an important emerging tourist market for Mauritius in recent years, as the island nation sought to diversify from long-time traditional markets and as China rose to become one of the top sources of tourist worldwide.

During the visit, the Chinese side announced that it will bring 2000 tourists to Mauritius in the coming year. Mauritius has also started discussions with the Chinese side on the possibility of having a Chinese airline to operate flights to Mauritius in view to further unlock the potential of the China market for the Mauritius tourism industry.
