In view to boost the number of visitors from Reunion Island, the Mauritius Government has put in place the ‘Maurice sans passport’ (Mauritius without passport) programme, under which Reunion Island residents can visit Mauritius without passport but by simply presenting their national identity card, during the period from 16th August to 10th October 2018.

The above offer pertains to “week-end packages" only and the following requirements apply:

  • visitors should be residents of Reunion Island and travel from there only;
  • they must spend a minimum of two nights in Mauritius;
  • they should meet the usual immigration requirements in terms of return air ticket and insurance cover, sufficient financial means as well as confirmed accommodation arrangements;
  • on arrival, they should produce to the Immigration Officer their valid Identity Cards as well as the accommodation voucher issued by the travel agency; and
  • they should not engage in any gainful occupation during their stay

Reunion Island has for many years remained among the top tourist source markets for Mauritius. In 2017, the ‘sister island’ ranked 3rd with 146,040 visitors to Mauritius, behind France which ranked first (273,419 tourists) and the United Kingdom in second position (149, 807 tourists).
